City & Guilds logoCity & Guilds 3667 Qualification in Comms Cabling

The City & Guilds 3666 qualification in communications cabling (fibre optics and copper structured cabling), has long been the industry standard qualifications. Just as the 3666 award replaced the older 3466 award, the City & Guilds 3666 is now becoming the City & Guilds 3667 programme. In reality, very little has changed over the former 3666, because it is simply not necessary to change a qualification drastically when it is the acknowledged industry leader and clearly meeting the needs of the communications cabling industry.

Just as the City & Guilds 3666 programme was recognised by the FIA (Fibre-optics Industry Association) as the industry standard and formed the foundation of the FIA qualification scheme, the 3667 programme will be similarly recognised. Indeed the FIA contributed to the development of the 3667 awards and has worked closely with City & Guilds in developing qualifications for the fibre-optics and communications cabling industry.

The reason for City and Guilds changing to the 3667 qualification number from the 3666 is just to differentiate the qualifications with the advent of the new Qualifications Credit Framework (QCF), where qualifications will have both a level and a credit value. For more information on qualification levels and credit values see our Qualifications information page.

measuring cablesThe course content has been updated in consultation with the UK fibre optics industry to ensure that the course syllabus is both relevant and up-to-date, reflecting the latest industry standards & codes of practice. Indeed the Fibreoptic Industry Association (FIA) has approved both the City and Guilds 3666 and 3667 schemes as the practical skills qualification for people wishing to enter the fibre optics industry.

The 3667 award is recognised internationally wherever the UK and European standards for cable installation are used, and is also often recognised by many other countries where City & Guilds are a well known and well respected awarding body.

In addition to incorporating the units from the previous 3666 award at level 2, the 3667 programme also incorporates four units at the higher level 3 in "Network Planning and Design", formerly part of the less well known 3663 award.

You will be awarded a City and Guilds certificate of unit credit for each 3667 Unit you complete. If you complete at least one of the main units 2, 3 and 4, and also complete unit 1, you will get an additional "3667 Level 2 award" Certificate.

Why Chose Lucid for your City & Guilds 3667 Training?

We believe we offer the highest quality of training and the best support, but don't just listen to us, click on this link for the views of the experts who inspect us and our training from City and Guilds. These are the independent people who can tell you about training centres, and very few training centres are prepared to publuish their comments as we do.

When comparing pricing please ensure that the cost quoted to you includes everything you expect. We have come accross some training providers offering City and Guilds 3667 training courses and then asking for more money if you want to be enroled to gain the qualification itself. We believe this is sharp practice to make the look good value, but technically they have only promised you the City and Guilds 3667 training and not the enrolment, assessments and certificates.

Awards after the City & Guilds 3667-02 Qualification

Following your City and Guilds 3667-02 qualification Lucid can offer you a range of more advanced qualification in the testing or design and planning of fibre optic and copper communications networks. Some of these qualifications may be on the QCF and able to be counted towards any futuire Diploma in fibre optics or communications cabling. Wherever possible we provide recognised qualifications from licensed awarding bodies. These are not just our own certificates, although we do find that our own course attendance certificates are normally well-respected within the industry too.
