Technical Writing
Our talents writing and illustrating our own training manuals have also been put to use developing user-guides for some equipment manufacturers. We pride ourselves on producing simple and lucid user manuals that are well structured and easy to follow.
Why use us for technical authoring?
Three reasons:
- we are good at it, and a good manual has many benefits;
- we are not expensive and understand the technology;
- this job would normally distract one or more of your engineers from their main tasks - we act as a temporary additional resource.
Benefits of a good user manual
The old joke is that nobody reads the user-manual until after they have spent hours or days getting nowhere, but how many user-manuals are the size of small novels? We believe that where possible user-manuals should be written to be clear, concise and well-illustrated to encourage the user to read it.
When the user finds your manual is clear and of a high-quality this impression is also associated with your product. The fact that the user can then use your product efficiently and without problems can further reinforce this impression and encourage the user to recommend the product to others.
Poor user manuals may be worth having for some legal reasons, but good manuals are definitely worth the effort for so many other reasons.
Photographs versus illustrations
We use both photographs and illustrations for training and user-manuals. Photographs generally show the product well, but illustrations can show parts clearly that are difficult to photograph (such as recessed fittings and small fibres). We produce both in-house.
