For groups of two or more delegates, we can often set up additional public courses at dates to suit; these courses will then be added to the list as open courses available for further individual bookings.

It is our policy not to inconvenience anybody by cancelling or postponing courses once a booking has been confirmed. Hence we do not advertise an unrealistic number of dates for our more specialist courses. Instead, we will arrange a course at dates to suit, for as few as just two delegates.

1-day Fibre Optics Overview course

This course can be scheduled to run immediately prior to any of our advanced courses. The aim is to cover fibre optics theory, basics and practical deployment in a short course, for trainees who wish to attend an advanced course where they are expected to have some prior knowledge of fibre.

This course can also be run as a stand-alone course, in which case we often customise it to fit the exact requiremnets of a specific customer. The "Fibre Optics Overview" if run together with the 1-day "Introduction to Cat 5 & Cat 6" course would give a complete introduction to Communications cabling.

D-side Copper Cable Jointing (OCN)

Following popular demand, we have now started running our OCN accredited D-side course as an open course, in a similar format to the City & Guilds 3666 courses. This is a 5-day practical skills course giving the basics and the OCN qualification required to start a career in copper cable jointing. Course is at Lucid Training Centre, Garsdale. Please contact us, by phone or email, for more information about the course content, career opportunities and qualifications in D-side Jointing. This course also qualifies for funding from Jobcentre Plus in some regions.

Advanced Fibre Optics

3-day advanced course giving a complete overview of fibre systems issues. This includes the latest hot topics such as PMD & CD, Raman vs EDFA amplifiers, DWDM & CWDM, MEMS & interleavers.

City & Guilds 3666 Units 2 & 3 Fibre Optic Cabling in Internal & External Environments

5-day combined units 2 and 3 course at Lucid Training Centre, Garsdale.

City & Guilds 3666 Unit 4 Copper Cabling in an Internal Environment

4-day course at Lucid Training Centre, Garsdale.

City & Guilds 3666 Unit 1 Safety & Basic Principles

As the 4 units in the 3666 scheme has been designed so they can be taken in any order, the material covered in the Unit 1 is mostly covered in the introductory section of each of the main practical skills units 2, 3 and 4. Hence, for candidates who have already taken unit 2, 3 or 4, we can offer an abbreviated version of unit 1, consisting of home study + 1/2-day course review and online exam at Lucid Training Centre, Garsdale.

Please note, bookings will need to be finalised at least two weeks in advance to allow time to receive the manual and complete the home study

Structured Cabling

1 or 2 day Structured Cabling Courses at Lucid Training Centre, Garsdale. Aimed at both installers and network managers, this short course covers the basics of cable installation, standards, fault-finding and testing using Cat 6 test equipment.

OCN Fibre Optics Intro (level 2 award)

3-day course at Lucid Training Centre, Garsdale. A shorter option than the City & Guilds 3666, the OCN award is also at level 2 and is aimed at managers and staff who need a good knowledge and appreciation of fibre optics with reduced practical sessions.

Laser Safety

2-day OCN certified "Laser Safety Introduction" award. Lucid Training Centre, Garsdale. A course suitable for new-comers to laser safety or those wishing to gain a recognised award. Special offers for delegates who have attended other laser safety courses and want the independent certificate from the Open College Network (OCN).

1-day "Laser Safety in Free Space Comms Systems" at the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) in Teddington.

1-day "Laser Safety: Advanced Calculations Workshop" - we have some keen demand for this course that we don't run very often as a public course.

Advanced OTDR Testing

3-day OCN certified "Advanced OTDR Testing" course, Lucid Training Centre, Garsdale.

Advanced Chromatic Dispersion & PMD Testing

3-day OCN certified award in chromatic dispersion and Polarisation Mode Dispersion measurement of fibre optic networks. Course is at Lucid Training Centre, Garsdale.

Raman Amplifier course

A 2-day version of this course covering the underlying physics of Raman optical amplification and the application of Raman amplifiers to fibre optic networks. The course is aimed at engineers with non-scientific and scientific backgrounds as we clarify complex areas such that they are understandable to all.

G.655 Seminar

1-day seminar explaining the basis of G.655 fibres and issues pertinent to their deployment and testing in the field. We first delivered this seminay last year when due to popular demand we had to put on a second day. We are now repeating the seminar for people who missed last years or who want a refresher on the issues.
