Lucid Support for Good Causes
At Lucid we support several UK charities, good causes and local events. Below is a summary of the institutions and events we have supported, and in most cases continue to support.
Charities.
Many years ago we decided that the Great North Air Ambulance would be an appropriate charity for us to support. This is a high-tech enterprise, doing a very worthwhile job in a rural setting - the similarities to our own enterprise were compelling.
Sponsorship.
We have not sponsored everybody who has asked us for money, instead we prefer to cherry-pick the opportunities that come our way. The secret is to have a something a little different to sponsor, especially something that is a real achievement, and to be lucky enough to be asking when our cashflow is favourable!
Our main sponsorship has been the Plymouth to Dakar Rally for cars costing less than £100. The vehicles are driven across hostile terrain through France, Spain and North Africa, with those making it through to their desitnation in Banjul being auctioned for local charities. In the case of the 1960s Land Rover ambulance we sponsored in 2005/2006 (see this link to read about that event), the ambulance was put in good order and carried supplies as it was destined to replace a horse and cart as the emergency response vehicle for the Alexander Edwards Clinic in central and eastern Gambia. The good news is that the team that delivered this ambualnec are planning to do this again this year 2007/2008, and we have again agreed to sponsor them. We will post more details soon so that you can check their progress on the web.
A similar feet of endurance was demonstrated by Matt Wynne who we sponsored to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in aid of Scope. Matt raised well over £10,000 in total and financed the whole trip himself so that all of the sponsorship money went directly to Scope. Well done Matt, and if you are reading this we will place a photo here when you get around to sending it through!
Local Charities and Good Causes
We have supported local events and charities both through voluntary practical assistance, donations of raffle prizes and financial gifts. The directors of Lucid would like to thank our staff for time given to support some of these events:
