Training in Angola
April 2001:
Lucid's Steve Dobson recently returned from an 'out-of-the-ordinary' trip to Africa. After receiving a request from an Angolan Oil Company, Lucid were able to swing into action and provide three City & Guilds courses in one hit.
One course ran in the Angolan capital Luanda and the other two on the oil base of Malongo in the province of Cabinda, a one hour plane ride away from the capital. Any worries about the location were unfounded, and all the courses ran safely and smoothly thanks to the efficient travel and movements service provided by our customer.
The biggest problem was language as none of the trainees had English as a first language (some might say that neither did the trainer!).
All students taking the written assessment passed, so the customer now have 18 Angolan staff trained in fibre installation and testing. Thanks to all the helpful and hospitable people who looked after Steve's welfare whilst he was in Angola, and Lucid's equipment when he wasn't. Thanks also to City & Guilds for approving us to carry out this work a long way from home!
After initial reservations about training in Angola we now feel that we have built a good, healthy relationship and hope to continue the positive trend in the future.
